Bead Rope Crochet is an Old-World craft that has been around for many years. It was popular in the 40's and again in the 70's, mostly using seed pearls. Today we can use almost anything we call a bead, for instance: amber, turquoise, jade, pearls and Swarovski crystal as well as glass beads of all sorts of shapes. First you load the pattern on the thread and spool, then you crochet a spiral rope with the thread on the inside and the beads on the outside. It looks similar to other beading techniques but has many advantages. Once the beads are strung on the bobbin (E Z Bob) you can slip it in your pocket with your crochet hook and take it anywhere. You can use a single color, or variegated beads of a similar style up to very, very intricate patterns. (One of my favorites is a 42 bead pattern.) You can use different size beads to increase the texture of your pieces. You will learn the techniques for starting, crocheting to desired length, and the Invisible Join. This is the magic. The Invisible Join opens up the bracelet technique to necklaces of all sorts of lengths. I will supply you with practice pieces to learn on and instructions to take away, as well a a page of simple patterns for you to try, once you master the technique.
